Hurrah, the ‘ugly’ shoe seems like it’s here to stay! We’ve seen flatforms, sliders and all sorts of chunky soles hanging around for the past few seasons now, which is a definite change from all the sky-high platforms and tricky stilettos that we’ve had to tolerate. This is the kind of footwear that makes you think, there’s straps reminding you of the styles you used to wear to school, buckles galore and a material mixture that just looks right, even if you’re not quite sure why. They may not make our feet look particularly dainty but at least our bank balances are a lot healthier without the necessary taxis and hobbling around. Some of these pairs may be an acquired taste, but they can be just as versatile as your standard court shoe, with a little bit of styling know how.
1 – My favourite outfit combination would have to be wearing a girly dress with a completely unexpected pair of shoes. Sure, I could have gone for a nice, sensible pair of sandals, but where’s the fun in that? My beloved chunky gladiators add a bit of a casual edge to a floaty dress, try these as an alternative.
2 – I have a slight obsession with white shoes, they’re crisp, modern and I wear them in the hopes I’ll be snapped up by Stockholm Street Style. They’re great for embracing a bit of a sporty look and work nicely with this slightly novelty co-ord. Who says you have to wear one trend from head-to-toe, sometimes a mash-up of them all is better! You could definitely have a lot of fun styling up this pair.
3 – If you don’t have any metallic items in your wardrobe, then you’re seriously missing out. Have a hunt on the high-street for any pieces ranging from silver to rose gold, then find the perfect pair of shoes to match. A simple flat style with an ankle-strap can be worn with pretty much any silhouette, I could see myself getting a lot of wear out of these too!
