The 70s trend is everywhere right now. Think flares, dungarees, carefree embroidered dresses and button-up skirts in every colour, all the best bits have been picked out for a more polished take. I’ve been rather fond of the shoes that one might associate with this decade for a while. My collection of wooden-heeled sandals is a little bit ridiculous and I’ve been partial to a platform for the past few years. Comfort is key here, there’s no need for sky-high stilettos, since a comfy wedge or even an espadrille will do the trick. This look is all about playing with proportions, so I’ve had a hunt for the best styles on the site to help you achieve it.
The Platform Boot
Even though you can barely see the shoes I’m wearing, they’re still important especially when trying out the jean of the season. Flares can have the most amazing leg-lengthening properties but to avoid the dragging-along-the-floor look that you may have sported back in 2003, it’s best to go with a platform heel. No one will even realise the amount of trickery you’ve used to appear four inches taller!
The Nostalgic Sandal
Forget strappy gladiators, this is my favourite kind of sandal to wear when the sun comes out. My styling tip is to either amp up the kitsch factor and pair with a cute playsuit or mix up the decades with a 90 ripped jean and slogan tee combo. I love the hardware detailing of these clogs, try them out with a boho dress and some statement shades.
The Thigh High Boot
Even though we’re fully into Spring now, the catwalks hint that it may be worth stocking up on some thigh-high boots for AW15. They’re a great transitional piece if you refuse to wear tights after April, wear them with a mini dress and duster coat for now and swap for a plushy number later in the year.
