Summer, especially in the UK, is never a certainty.
If recent weeks are anything to go by, we will find ourselves trapped on a rollercoaster of rain and heatwaves for some time, and so balancing outfits between fabulousness and practicality is a much-sought-after skill.
Sure, you can risk the inevitable overheating and head straight for A/W, but personally I am of the opinion that sweat stains can hinder your look.
Also, some of my most favourite trends happen in winter, and honestly, life is too short to wait sometimes.
METALLICS
I for one, am not in the habit of believing that Christmas is the only appropriate time to wear sparkle. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in the age of Puff Daddy (when he was called Puff Daddy), Atomic Kitten and My Little Ponies, perhaps I just like being distracted by shiny objects, but I digress.
Metallic accessories are an easy way to make any look more festive. Fancy flats are perfect for day to night dressing, and a pointed toe will go a long way to making them look more formal. If you’re too cool for school, these skate slip-ons will add instant sass to tailored trousers and a crisp white shirt.
(Please try to ignore my injury – it is, as only the chicest of injuries are, stiletto-related)
DARK COLOURS
Walking past Autumn/Winter hues is just not an ability that I possess. The very sight of burgundy makes me giddy, and we all know how I feel about black. Working them into accessories before winter can make a very chic statement, especially when paired with breezier pieces in lighter colours.
This shoulder bag from Deichmann is the most delicious shade of forest green, and with its gold details and slightly relaxed structure, is just begging to be worn with a white dress or some mid-wash denim.
BOOTS
You could of course, embrace this trend early, by simply pairing yours with a sundress or cut-off shorts. Coachella may be over, but that doesn’t mean that the ankle boot is! Au contraire – they are the cornerstone of this year’s winter shoedrobe – pointed, textured and block-heeled styles are particularly strong, but be prepared to embrace the biker too! I’ve included some of my picks below…
