It seems that I’ve been through every kind of packing situation. Whether it’s a six-week stint in South East Asia or quick weekend away in Paris, I try and apply the same method to each trip, don’t go overboard! As tempting as it may seem to bring all of the things you never get to wear in Blighty (how is the heating still on in June), it’s important to whittle it down to a considered selection. This is my tried and tested formula for packing success.
Get organised
There’s so many ways to make things easier for each time I go away. My passport takes pride of place on my Pinterest-style shelves and I try to keep a little travel kit in my suitcase with things like adaptors, maps and little plastic bags for liquids. I also have a packing list that I work through each time (Liberty London Girl has a great template on her blog). You won’t have to turn your room upside down a few hours before your flight ever again!
Gather and identify
This is the fun bit! I go through my wardrobe and pick out as many items as possible, imagining that I have an unlimited baggage allowance. It’s pretty easy to see clear themes like tropical prints, 70s denim or sporty separates. I then edit by trying on and seeing what fits, pairing items together and making sure they go with any shoes I’m thinking of. It’s also a good idea to check the weather and determine whether an emergency jumper is really necessary.
Cover all the bases
This is not the time to pack three pairs of barely-worn heels, stick to one of each category and make sure you always have the most versatile option. If space is tight, stick to the combination of a comfy flat sandal, a heeled version for evening, trainers in case of any activities and maybe a pair of flip flops for the beach. Metallics are a great option as they go with any colour combination and add a bit of edge to an outfit.
