Have you heard about the latest craze for the ‘Dad Bod’? The phrase was coined by Mackenzie Pearson on a US college website and has taken the internet by storm. It is a male body type that is described as not genuinely overweight, but a little out of condition, non-intimidating, cuddly. Think Seth Rogen or Jason Segel from the Judd Apatow movies (eg. Knocked Up, Superbad, Bad Neighbours).
Pearson writes that the Dad Bod suggests “I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.”
“It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either.”
An interesting concept, but we believe that when looking for inspiration, Dads should look more towards sports superstar (and man of our dreams) David Beckham for ‘dadspiration’.
Far be it from us to impose impossible body ideals on the dads of the world, but ex-professional footballer Beckham is a fantastic role model for fathers in other ways. We’re (for once) not even talking about his abs. He keeps it casual with his fashion (check the 3/4 length joggers, hoodie and beanie combo) and is totally devoted to spending quality time with his kids. Check him out hanging with daughter Harper in LA looking utterly besotted with his gorgeous little girl.
We love his sports-casual style.
